fasteners to attach bench to deck

This video demonstrates the shear strength of a standard construction nail, compared to a deck screw. The screw The best example for when to use a nail versus screw is building a deck. Nails are used to attach the joists to the deck framing, and screws are used to fasten the deck to the frame. The right

The frame of the benches is constructed of 2" x 3" beams, and then covered on the sides with flooring material and attached to the deck by driving screws diagonally through the bottom square of the bench directly into the deck. The cover then has it's own frame made out of 2" x 2" beams with more flooring screwed on to it in

Benches are built two or three boards wide on a 2X6 frame. Blocking between the front and back framing member should be installed every 16” the same as the decking. Bench support legs can be placed every four to six feet. Trim on the bench is installed the same as the horizontal deck trim. Be sure to install the fasteners

Step 1: Install Posts. Attach 8'x6” vertical wood posts to the outer edges of the deck using 6”x6” 12-gauge stainless steel adjustable post bases and metal screws. For added stability, fasten the vertical posts to the home's exterior using post anchors and 2-1/2” stainless steel collated deck screws. Add a center post to the deck

Use deck screws to attach the bottom of the balusters to the face of the bottom rail so the angled cut on the baluster is flush with the bottom of the rail. Attach the top of the balusters through the top rail. Stand the section of railing up and attach the top rail flush with the top of the posts. Attach the bottom rail between the posts.

A new series, brought to you by Cottage Life, Jason Lake shows you common mistakes, and easy fixes for building a deck. Jason is a So you say that beam needs to be notched for post that bolts can't take shear load and your other video you attach ledger board with lag bolts which is also makes SHEAR

When stepped in and out to echo the lines of the house and when capped with a simple redwood bench, the deck manages an attractive complement To mount the 2-by-10 ledger, block under it or have a helper hold it up, then nail it to the siding-clad rim joist of the house with a few 16d galvanized nails.

Framing a Bench Perpendicular to Joists. Mark the locations of the 2x10 legs on the joists. Keep the outer edges of all legs the same distance from the edge of the deck. Cut the legs to length, predrill them for three lag screws or bolts, and fasten them to the joists. Install blocking between the joists adjacent to the legs. Cut the

Miter each edge 45° and dry fit the frame around the outside of the bench seat. 11. 10. Assemble the frame by attaching the end pieces to the ends of the 2 × 6s, and the side pieces to the pressure-treated top plates. Use 3″ deck screws to secure the frame pieces in place. Drill pilot holes through the miters

For a full maintenance free bench, frame using pressure treated 2x4 material (instead of the 2x6 framing used for a wooden deck) and trim with maintenance free material. Trim on the bench is installed the same as the horizontal deck trim. Be sure to install the fasteners in the trim as often as the fasteners in the decking

Finish the Bench. Out of 2x6s, cut leg bases the width of bench. Bolt bases to centers of legs with lag bolts. Using router, round ends and outer edges of outside seat boards. Using 2-inch screws, attach three seat boards to frame. Paint or stain bench to match deck.

I set up the drill with a Torx bit to drive these 2 1/2-inch self-tapping deck screws through the 21 3/4-inch newly-cut boards into the sides of the seat bottom back. As you can see in the photo above, I ran screws through the leg boards into both the seat back portion and into the bench seat, in effect, not only attaching the leg

Cut two pieces of 2x6 for each bench and five pieces for the top, allowing for a 2-inch overhang on either side. Clip the corners on the bench pieces. Stand the A-frame sides up and attach the bench planks to the bench crosspieces with 2½-inch deck screws. Secure the top planks to the top crosspieces using the same

Bolt Down Aluminum Metal Posts. The most common railings that utilize surface mounted posts tend to be aluminum railings or some of the PVC and composite railings. Here we see typical aluminum posts bolted to the deck surface through a base welded to the post. The fasteners and base are visible but the entire railing
